11 de setembro: de Beatles a RATM, as músicas banidas das rádios americanas após atentado

A programação das rádios nos Estados Unidos teve de ser alterada devido aos atentados terroristas de 11 de setembro de 2001. Diversas músicas - a maioria de rock - deixaram de ser tocadas sob a alegação de que teriam letras com interpretações "questionáveis" após o ocorrido.

RATM - Mais Novidades

Com 165 faixas ao todo, a lista de canções banidas das rádios americanas foi feita pela Clear Channel Communications, empresa hoje conhecida como iHeartMedia. A corporação está no controle de mais de 1,1 mil rádios AM e FM em todo o país.

Em meio às várias músicas selecionadas, algumas delas, realmente, faziam referência a voar de avião, explosões, armas, quedas, morte, entre outros tópicos que poderiam despertar "gatilhos" em ouvintes traumatizados com os atentados. Alguns exemplos são "Learn to Fly", do Foo Fighters; "TNT", "Shot Down in Flames" e "Safe in New York City", todas do AC/DC; "Jump", do Van Halen; "Chop Suey!", do System f a Down; e "Aeroplane", do Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Porém, muitas faixas foram retiradas da programação das rádios por questões meramente políticas. Chama atenção, especialmente, o fato de toda a discografia do Rage Against the Machine ter sido banida. O motivo era evidente: a banda fazia duras críticas a autoridades e grandes corporações dos Estados Unidos.

Ainda que não faça referência à política americana, "Sunday Bloody Sunday", hino do U2 sobre o conflito na Irlanda do Norte, também foi cortada. Outra exclusão curiosa foi a de "Imagine", canção pacifista - mas não menos ácida - de John Lennon que pedia um mundo sem religião.
