Pra ouvir e discutir: os melhores discos lançados em 1967

Para muitos, 1967 foi o melhor ano da história do rock. Pode ser um exagero, mas certamente o rock viveu um de seus melhores 12 meses. Motivos para isso não faltam: os Beatles lançaram o disco que mudou o mundo, Jimi Hendrix apareceu, os Doors estrearam, o Velvet Underground colocou o seu primeiro álbum nas lojas, o Pink Floyd veio ao mundo, o Cream lançou a sua obra-prima. A explosão da psicodelia e do Flower Power fizeram do ano uma grande celebração na cronologia da música.

Os cinco grandes hits de 1967 foram 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' do Procol Harum, 'I'm a Believer' dos Monkees, 'All You Need is Love' e 'Strawberry Fields Forever' dos Beatles, e 'Light My Fire' do The Doors. O disco mais vendido do ano foi 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', dos Beatles, enquanto o single número 1 foi 'Release Me', de Engelbert Humperdinck.

Diversos nomes que se transformariam em músicos importantes, conhecidos e influentes no futuro nasceram em 1967, como Dave Matthews, Kurt Cobain, Billy Corgan, John Popper (Blues Traveler), Mike Portnoy, Chuck Schuldiner, Noel Gallagher, Dave Navarro, Glen Benton (Deicide), John Petrucci, Serj Tankian, Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) e Steven Wilson. O ano ficou marcado também pela perda de artistas como John Coltrane, J.B. Lenoir, Brian Epstein, Woody Guthrie e Otis Redding.

Vieram ao mundo em 1967 bandas importantíssimas como Blue Cheer, Blue Öyster Cult, Chicago, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, James Gang, Jethro Tull, Procol Harum, Santana, Sly & The Family Stone, Spirit, Status Quo, The Stooges, T. Rex e Van der Graaf Generator.

O Grammy realizou a sua 9ª edição, premiando como Gravação do Ano a canção 'Strangers in the Night' de Frank Sinatra, e como Álbum do Ano 'A Man and His Music', também de Sinatra. O prêmio de Canção do Ano foi para 'Michelle', dos Beatles.

Para chegar à lista de melhores discos do ano, fiz um levantamento em diversos estudos similares, identificando os principais lançamentos do período. Tendo uma pré-lista com mais de uma centena de títulos nas mãos, apliquei as notas do Rate Your Music, All Music e de uma terceira fonte (geralmente a Rolling Stone, mas quando não consegui encontrar a avaliação original da revista variei entre DownBeat, Sputnik Music e Pitchfork).
